Ophthonix Introduces iZon® SL™ Lenses

-New customized iZon SL Lens designed to provide more patients with high definition vision-

Vista, CA --Ophthonix, the originators of a high definition vision technology that transforms the way consumers see their world by providing distance vision that is crisper, clearer and more vivid, today announced the introduction of the customized iZon® SL™ Lenses.  The new iZon SL enables Eye Care Practitioners to prescribe many high definition benefits for their patients, including superior vision in low luminance, low contrast and glare conditions.

Both the iZon® SL™ Lens and its predecessor, the iZon® ML™ Lens, are produced from the patient’s optical fingerprint, or iPrint™, that contains all 2nd to 6th order aberrations of the eye measured by the Z-View® Aberrometer.   The iPrint, coupled with the company’s proprietary algorithm, is used to determine the best sphere-cylinder fit for the back surface of the lens.  “By using the iPrint and the algorithm, the prescription for all iZon Lenses is unique and customized to each patient,” said Steve Osbaldeston, Ophthonix CEO.  “This level of customization, based on the unique aberrations of each patient’s eyes, is combined with our proprietary lab processes and coatings to produce a spectacle lens that is distinctive in the vision benefits it provides,” continued Osbaldeston.

The iZon SL Lens represents a “better” alternative for patients who want some of the benefits of high definition vision but may be price sensitive.  The iZon SL technology was tested in a recent clinical investigation conducted at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  This clinical demonstrated that the iZon SL Lens provides patients with high definition vision across a range of vision challenges.  This improved vision includes such areas as low luminance (seeing dark objects at dusk when there is little light), intermediate contrast acuity (reading a traffic sign covered by the shadow of a tree), glare acuity (driving into the setting sun), and reading tiered letters (reading a hanging menu in a fast food restaurant).  “We observed that the new iZon SL Lens provided subjects with pronounced functional vision benefits, and significantly better than found in conventional spectacle lenses,” noted Dr. Janet Szlyk, Ph.D. and one of the clinical investigators at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The new iZon SL Lens is 1.6 index, and fully loaded with index matched scratch resistant coating, and premium anti-reflective and super-hydrophobic coatings.  It is available for both Single Vision and PAL patients.  As with the iZon ML, the iZon SL is manufactured with free form equipment.  The key design difference between the iZon ML Lens and the iZon SL Lens is that the iZon ML is a three layer structure, with a photo-polymer material as the mid-layer.  The new iZon SL carries a retail price that is about 25% lower than the iZon ML.  “We have prescribed the iZon SL Lens in our practice for about three months and it is ideal for patients who may want the benefits of high definition vision that only the iZon brand can provide, but who are more value oriented,” commented Dr. Dan Bristol, an optometrist from Austin, TX.  “Of course, the iZon ML is our preferred lens but the iZon SL is a great alternative to offer patients when price is raised as a concern, and it has replaced the previous second tier lens in my practice,” emphasized Bristol.
